Where to start, this week? There’s so much great new music making its way to One Man’s Jazz. How about a trio recording by three amazing avant garde dignitaries: pianist Angelica Sanchez, bassist Barry Guy and drummer Ramon Lopez? They met for the first time at one of the JazzDor concerts in Strasbourg and recorded a brilliant set. Or perhaps saxophonist Jeff Lederer and his cronies taking on American politics with “Guilty!”. The Italian band Pericopes+1 makes a return to the show, as does saxophonist Ohad Talmor with “Back To The Land” (the 2023 release became a 2024 release due to legal issues), and saxophonist Jason Robinson chips in with a second exciting volume of “Ancestral Numbers”. As is usually the case, there are new releases from European labels, highlighted by “Live In Amsterdam” from Vehicle/Passenger, a free improvising trio that builds soundscapes around the queer black anarchist poetry of saxophonist Marc Alberto who is joined by drummer Lesley Mok and bassist Florian Herzog.
