This week’s extravaganza is all over the place. Different styles and sounds throughout. James Brandon Lewis’ sidekick, drummer Chad Taylor, steps out with a new release with his own trio, while English drummer Tom Skinner pulled his band together to tackle some new compositions inspired by Tony Williams. Dan Rosenboom pulled together five different bands for five nights at Eta in Los Angeles – improvisation was the rule. From Europe come some new trio releases for sampling: free jazz saxophonist Roland Devocelle from France, the German group AAAPUZ and a rather unique sounding band with vocalist Lynn Cassiers, bassist Manolo Cabros and drummer Joao Gato. Lots more too, including a look at one of the free jazz era/s indispensable bassists, Steve Tintweiss.
