I’m always pleased to see friends and favourites releasing exciting new music, and this episode starts and ends with just that: music from the Nordic countries by people I know through One Man’s Jazz. Opening this episode is Albert Ayler Reawakened, created in Finland, a tribute to the great avant-garde saxophonist; closing the show are a new Norwegian/Swedish super quartet called Unionen, Nacka Forum, a quartet from Sweden and Denmark in its 25th year, and full circle back to one of Finland’s most exciting bands Hot Heros. Improvised music is very much alive in those countries. In between you’ll hear more new music from the likes of England’s free jazz master Paul Dunmall, alto saxophonist Michael Attias with a second volume of “Quartet Music”, the vibrantInsomnia Brass Band from Germany, saxophonist Caleb Wheeler Curtis, Sylvie Courvoisier all by herself, drumming master John Hollenbeck with the NDR Big Band, and the first of hopefully many more keeping alive the music of late Dallas Texas trumpeter, Dennis Gonzalez, via the Dennis Gonzalez Legacy Band’s “Live At The Texas Theatre.” Enjoy!!!
