For the last several years, when I take a look at the year-end stats and such, when it comes to record labels, Clean Feed from Portugal has generally been at the top of the list of labels with the most spins. It has become my go-to label, so I’m going to it for a few recent releases this time out. You’ll hear strong quartet tunes from saxophonist Avam Fefer’s “Testament”, the free-leaning piano trio of Zack Clarke, the latest from Harris Eisenstadt’s Canada Day Quartet, and spacy and out-there music from trumpeter Tom Arthurs, keyboardist Isambard Khroustaliov and percussionist Julian Satorius. Of course there’s other noteworthy new albums to explore: two great duets – Adam Pieronczyk and Miroslav Vitous & Satoko Fujii with Joe Fonda – and the percussion heavy Shake Stew from Austria.
