Noted German pianist Joachim Kuhn, an important figure in the European free jazz scene, moved to Paris at a time when that scene was booming; he linked up with bassist Jean Francois Jenny-Clark and drummer Daniel Humair. Kuhn called that trio the band of his life. Well, now at 80, maybe he’s found another, with two younger French players of note: drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq and bassist Thibault Cellier. Kuhn’s new album “The Way” presents some very stunning music. It’s a definite feature in this edition of One Man’s Jazz. Other new music comes from Montreal’s Alain Bedard & his Auguste Quartet, the Glenn Doig Trio from Sydney, Unknown to Known from England, Canada’s fine bassist Dan Fortin, a Sun Ra tribute from trumpet Michael Sarian, pianist Matthew Putman, drummer Federico Ughi & bassist Ledian Mola, plus the English band Uroboro with a reworking of their debut album.
