Two of the most important musical creators in today’s freer jazz world are bassist William Parker and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith. They are frequent flyers on One Man’s Jazz, and with both continuing to release vital and amazing new music, expect to hear them frequently. Such is the case for this episode. You’ll hear a track from Parker’s “Painters Dance” with Hamid Drake and Daniel Carter and one from one of the ten separate albums in Parker’s ten-cd box set “Migration of Silence Into and Out of the Tone World”. Smith’s got two new releases by Tum Records out now, and after debuting one last week, he and his Great Lakes Quartet will be heard on the four-movement piece, “Diamond Symphony”. Also new for this week: music from the Dutch powerhouse band Spinifex, Australian composer and conductor Johannes Luebbers and his Dectet, Jeff Lederer and Mary Larose, saxophonist Aakash Mittal and his Awaz Trio, bassoonist Sara Schoenbeck, and percussionist Adam Rudolph with an all guitar orchestra. You may have to listen to this show more than once to absorb it all.
