This show kicks off with some blues for a change, and it comes from a legend: B.B. King, recorded in concert in France at the 1977 Nancy Pulsations Festival. B.B. is in full glory with a jazz-inflected back up band. There’s no one like B.B. King. Trumpeter Natsuki Tamura and pianist Satoko Fujii are not only musical partners but also life partners, and that bond has seen them join together on all manner of recordings. “Yama Kawa Umi” is another free-for-all added to by drummer Ramon Lopez. Palmetto Records has retweaked, reprocessed, remastered and revisited the 2002 Andrew Hill classic “A Beautiful Day”, while pianist Marilyn Crispell and drummer Harvey Sorgen didn’t revisit their Dreamstruck trio, but kept their musical connection intact on the new and brillianst “Forest”.  Canadian guitarist Dan Pitt fattened up his trio with some horns and the resulting “Horizontal Depths” is impressive, as are two new albums from Scandinavia: Danish saxophonist Marius Zeeberg’s new “Garage Sale” and one by The Young Mothers – albeit a Texas band – under the leadership of Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Haker Flaten (he summoned them to Oslo to make “Better If You Let It”. Let the music in One Man’s Jazz set the tone for your day.
