The mystique and importance of John Coltrane is always there. Italian multi-instrumentalist Adriano Clementebased his new “The Coltrane Suite and Other Impressions” on the great saxophonist’s spiritual journey; it’s an interesting recording. As are the new one from the Rempis Percussion Quartet’s “Harvesters” and “Guts and Skins” from the powerhouse rhythm pair of Ingebright Haker-Flaten and Paal-Nilssen Love. Another important very rhythm player is Danish drummer Kresten Osgood. His latest matches him up with fellow drummer Rakalam Bob Moses and guitarist Tisziji Munoz, but his back catalogue is quite varied as you’ll hear as we explore that.
