A very mixed-bag episode this week. A two-saxophone/cello trio from France (Vincent Courtois, Robin Fincker & Daniel Erdmann) debut their new “Nothing Else” from the Hungarian label, BMC to kick things off. Then comes a teaser track from a new Nina Simone recording – a discovered and unreleased live concert at the 1966 Newport Jazz Festival. Grgur Savic is the first Croatian musician ever played on the show. He’s with other Berlin-based musicians on his debut “Vortex 001″, while another debut comes from Israeli flautist Joe Melnicove. Two new albums from South America are heard from the first time – Chilean saxophonist Diego Manuschevich, live in Santiago, and Buenos Aires bassist Federico Solomiewicz, same for the Knee Jerk trio from Vancouver. And perhaps one of the most eclectic bands in Europe is heard for the first time on OMJ – Simon Rummel Ensemble. Lots more good stuff, too.
