This show is not part of APEC, The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, but that doesn’t stop music from that area of the world finding its way to One Man’s Jazz. Two new albums from Australia get sampled – saxophonist Matt Ottignon’s “Volant” and the latest from the quintet Jiem – plus there’s a piece from an improvised session by a hard-blowing quartet from Japan, live at the Nagano Pignose club in Tokyo. Mexico’s Sinaptrico Jazz Trio are heard for the first time on the show, while two debut recordings also make the bill: bassist Emiliano Lasansky’s “The Optimist” and “Air Cake and Other Summery Occupations” by multi-dimensional artist Catharine Cary. She’s created an ultra-hip, avant garde children’s story (for adults too). Finnish power quartet Superposition contributes music from their newest album as well. This edition of OMJ is eclectic as hell. Go with it!
