Like so many editions of One Man’s Jazz, this one has “legs”. It finds its way to very different corners of the creative jazz world. Plenty of new releases to check out this week including the much-anticipated “Evenings At The Village Gate: John Coltrane With Eric Dolphy”, the discovered recording from 1961 found in the vast archives of the New York Library For The Performing Arts. Another tenor player’s next recording is also much anticipated, based on the success and reception of his “Jesup Wagon” a couple of years back – James Brandon Lewis. You’ll hear a taste of his new “For Mahalia With Love”. Ditto Portuguese bassist Carlos Bica. His last recording was highly original, and so is his new one for Clean Feed Records. There are more from that label in the show, too. There’s some Led Zeppelin flavoured tunes from Italy, fiery free jazz from alto saxophonist Darius Jones, and music from a tribute to the great tenors by Polish horn player, Slawek Pezda and his band.
