“Lights On A Satellite” is a new album celebrating not only the birthday of the100-year-old marvel that is saxophonist Marshall Allen, the gatekeeper of Sun Ra’s music and the leader of the Sun Ra Arkestra but also the Arkestra itself. Space is the place remains the motto. Bassist Christopher Damman‘s new album is really a debut since he made a vow that he would only put his name on a recording when he felt he had acquired a suitable musical vocabulary, and that point has arrived. The Leiba Trio from Buenos Aires features three excellent musicians who have been releasing albums under different names, but now have settled on Leiba Trio. Another worthwhile wait. There’s new music from bassoonist Karen Borca with long-time playing partner drummer Paul Murphy, Canadian drummer Joel Jeschke, the powerful Gold Mother from Portugal, and French free jazz saxophonist Sakina Abdou.
