So much amazing music this episode! The summer releases from Clean Feed are out and two of them debut: the blistering Larry Ochs-Aram Shelton Quartet and a second album from Martin Kuchen and the Landaeus Trio. Then how to describe the Mat Walerian Okuden Quartet with the multi-reedist leading Matthew Shipp, William Parker and Hamid Drake. Those names are enough to conjure up ideas of powerful music. I was so impressed with the bassist on Dan Rosenboom’s latest that I went hunting and found Billy Mohler’s “Focus”, his first album since he started to move his focus to jazz. He’s a great player. Add in some other new things like bassist Daniel Toledo from Poland, young saxophonist Sam Decker, guitarist Dan Phillips going solo, then topping it all off with Sydney’s Alister Spence alone with his piano….not much more to say but LISTEN!!
