This is a mixed bag edition of OMJ where the music ranges from a first-time appearance by reedman Floros Floridis who is jazz royalty in Greece, to a pair of new albums in the ongoing Live At Scholes Street Studio from Gauci Music, to new European releases by Midi 4 from Poland, Dutch trumpeter Dennis Sekretarev, to the return of frequent flyer alto saxophonist Rick Countryman, to a pair of drummer-led piano trios with different agendas – Tyshawn Sorey’s deconstructing threesome and Phil Haynes exploring the crossroads of improvisation and standard expectations built around the music of Ellington and Strayhorn.
