This show has a varied flavour in the new releases, from hard-nosed freer playing to a vocal album to world-fusion. The edge comes from Swiss saxophonist Christoph Gallio’s Day and Taxi (featuring Gerry Hemingway), drummer Devin Gray, Ghost Horse from Italy and Old Mountain from Portugal. Singer Sascha Ley from Luxembourg teams up with French bassist Laurent Payfert; it’s inspired by those wonderful Sheila Jordan duet albums, but takes a different direction. The world sounds come from the creation of a giant 40-piece orchestra by percussionist Adam Rudolph who combined his own Go: Organic Orchestra and the Brooklyn Raga Massive with the result, “Ragmala”, which is being called “future music”. You’ll also hear some tunes from bassists Harish Raghavan and Italian Giuseppe Millaci. Top it off with a track from the formidable saxophonist and culture maker Oliver Lake’s debut recording from 1976, and this is a pretty darn good three hours of music.
