Image Welcome to the first show of 2017. This week features a selection of terrific music from BMC Records from Hungary.  Perhaps you don't think of Hungary as a country known for jazz, but there's a long history of improvisation and rhythm in their music.  The label is part of an all-encompassing umbrella organization, the Budapest Music Centre, based in Budapest.

Playlists
Thursday, 29 December 2016
It's the last show of the year, and that usually means a look back at the past twelve months worth of shows and picking out some favourite recordings, and that's exactly what this week is all about.  You'll hear music from my 2016 faves (posted elsewhere ).  There were many great recordings in 2016.

ImageI'm very excited this week to debut Sufi,  a recording by Polish vibraphonist Dominik Bukowski and his quartet which features trumpeter Amir ElSaffar.  They combine improvised music influenced by traditional Polish music and Iraqi "maqam", the microtonal system that ElSaffar has been exploring in his own music.  It's a wonderful combination.

ImageDavid Virelles' new EP release called "Antenna" is a bit of a departure from his last two highly acclaimed releases for ECM.  David turns to a much more electronic/sound creation/urban direction, yet still with elements of his investigations of Cuban music.  It's something he has been working on for a while, often combining this with some of his digi-art.

I've deleted several music files to free up some web space.  If you find a particular show or segment on this site  that won't stream, contact me. I likely can send it to you.  At the moment I'm keeping around the last eleven months' worth of shows available through this site.

Newsflash!

Taint Radio going but One Man's Jazz to continue

As of July 1, 2016 taintradio.org will no longer be available.  After 8 years of demonstrating successfully that independent and unstructured programming -- unfettered by suits, hired guns, and managers -- works.  We at Taint Radio are sad to see it go, but equally proud of what we've been able to accomplish.  Major props to Bob Rogers, the creator and heart of Taint Radio for his dedication and passion.  We, the programmers, salute you. And we salute you, the discerning listeners to Taint Radio, for your support.    One Man's Jazz will continue at this website with new presentations weekly.  Keep tuning in.  Tell your friends!  More news to follow.

Show

Presenting Phase 3 of One Man's Jazz.  First, twelve and a half years at CKUW, then Taint Radio for four and a half, and now this website will host the show.  The goal is to keep the music rolling, with a new presentation weekly.  You'll notice a few tweaks to the way the playlists are presented as well.   And yes there's now a Facebook page for One Man's Jazz. Watch for weekly posts there with news about the show, playlists, and other interesting items.
